CURRENCY AND EXCHANGE
The official currency in Peru is Nuevo Sol (S/.) divided in 100 centimes. It circulates in coins of 10, 20 and 50 centimes, 1, 2, and 5 Nuevos Soles and in notes of 10, 20 , 50, 100 y 200 Nuevos Soles.
The American dollar is accepted in most of shopping malls, restaurants and gas stations at current rate. Most of business accept the more known credit cards: Visa, Master Card, Diners and American Express. The use of travellers checks having limitations, you should consult at the shop if accepted.
In paying with credit card, make sure to pay only the amount for the service or article got .
220 volts. Most of four and five star hotels supply 110 volts.
Visa is not necessary for citizens of most of the countries of American continent and those of Western Europe. Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile's citizens do not need passport or visa for entering some regions of Peru. In these cases authorised stay term is 90 days (they can be extended by migration officials).
